On the 31st of March, the Trojans geared up for a riveting match versus the Topsail Pirates where the results were disappointing for the Trojans.
The Trojans knew this game would be not only a mental battle but an intense physical match against a highly ranked team. The Pirates had a nearly undefeated spring season last year and have only gotten better. The Trojans struggled to find their rhythm against a disciplined and aggressive team sadly leading to another defeated game on the Trojans home turf.
From the first whistle the Pirates applied pressure forcing the Trojans to fight for deep defensive plays almost each and every time Topsail had the ball. Although the Trojans had a couple good runs the ball was heavily in possession of the opposing team– keeping the Trojans on their toes for what the Pirates might pull out of their sleeve. Widening the gap, the Pirates closed the first quarter with a game high of 7 points against the Trojans with 0.
The Trojans took the break between the first and second quarter to regroup, analyze and put new plans into motion in hopes of a fresh start coming into the game. They blamed it on needing to wake up but the following results confirmed the Pirates true talent for the game. The trojans ended up losing the second quarter by 11 points, adding 4 points from this quarter alone.
As the match progressed it was definite that Topsail capitalized on being selfish with the ball and encouraged passing, assists, and ball work moving while speeding around the field. West continued to compete with determination while continuing to let the game slip to their defeat. Topsail scored another 3 goals in the third quarter leading to a 14-point lead.
The game felt like it was over for the Trojans, yet there was still another quarter. They fought with all they had left with an underlying feeling of defeat already showing in their gameplay. Losing 17-0 the Trojans walked off the field in disappointment of their performance and eager for revenge in the upcoming match on May 1st.
