Riley Grissett

Riley Grissett, Staff Writer

Riley Grissett is in her junior year. This is her first year in the newspaper and is excited to be a part of The West Wind and get a taste of what goes into writing. Grissett was born and raised in Ash, North Carolina, and grew up on her family farm. Although she has never relocated, she is happy to be surrounded by her family and friends.

“I love living in the country, it is nice and quiet. You cannot beat the privacy you receive when being out in the rural area,” said Grissett.

When Grissett is not in the classroom working on assignments, she is participating in clubs. She is an active member of the FFA and is on the officer team as the reporter. Outside of school, she works two jobs. One of her jobs was a sales associate at Marshall's and the other was a helping hand on her family’s farm. Although she does not want to pursue the family business, she wants to attend college and get her master's degree in psychology and potentially become a child psychologist.

“My goal is to help the ones who suffer the most,” said Grissett. “The world we live in is cruel, and children get caught in the crossfire of some of the most horrific things,” said Grissett.

Grissett was introduced to journalism by Mrs. Saunders. Not only did she introduce Grissett to the class, but she also helped spark Grissett’s passion to read and write. For the longest time, in Grissett’s free time she would make art, now she reads cover to cover about love and mysteries and truth.
