Top 5 Binge Worthy Shows

Outer Banks

In Outer Banks, a group of teens called Pogues go on a treasure hunt for $400 million worth of gold that is thought to be found on a ship called the Royal Merchant. This is also the very ship that John B’s(one of the main protagonists) father disappeared looking for 9 months before. As the Pogues continue their hunt, they find clues that seem to have been left behind by John B’s father. This show is filled with mystery, romance, found family, and action.

“I loved watching Outer Banks because I can in some way relate because I live at a beach in North Carolina and the beach has become a part of my personality,” said creative content team member Brooklyn Coble.  “The show is also very entertaining.”

Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls follows the lives of 32 year old single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her incredibly intelligent daughter Rory. Lorelai finds herself in need of her distant parents’ help in order to pay Rory’s tuition to a prestigious high school. Meanwhile, Rory struggles to adjust to her new school as her classmates constantly try to put her down.

“Gilmore Girls is one of those comfort shows that make you feel like you’re at home,” said online director and event coverage coordinator Destiny Noblitt. “The show teaches many life lessons and showcases growing up in a beautiful way.”

The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries is about a recently orphaned Elena Gilbert, and Stefan and Damon Salvatore. Stefan and Damon are vampire brothers who at first hate each other because of the dark things that had happened in their past. Stefan is the “good” brother and is always reliable and caring, while Damon is the “bad” brother who is dangerous, manipulative, well versed in sarcasm, and most importantly, hot. However, both of the brothers fall for Elena and her life takes a turn for the worse as she is dragged into the supernatural world.

“I liked that there was a love triangle between the two vampire boys and the human girl and the drama in the show,” said broadcast member Savannah Robinson.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians

Based on the beloved book series of the same name, the show follows 12 year old demigod Percy Jackson as he goes on a quest to find and return Zeus’s lightning bolt in order to prevent a war between the gods. He goes on the quest with newfound friends Annabeth, daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr. While on his dangerous journey, he must also enter the underworld in order to save his mom. This show is filled with friendship, betrayals, and adventure.

“I absolutely loved the new Percy Jackson show,” said staff writer Hannah Underwood. “I had never read the books or watched the movie before so watching it from a new perspective in comparison to most of the show’s viewers was really exciting for me!”

New Girl

After going through a rough break up, 6th grade teacher Jess Day moves into an apartment with three single guys. Nick, Schmidt and Winston all try their best to support Jess after her breakup. This show is a mix of comedy and drama, and is sure to be a fun time for all.

“Omg, New Girl is my show,” said editor in chief Courtney Weston. “It’s just so funny talking about serious topics and such.”

Top 5 Songs

“Texas Hold ‘Em” By Beyonce

This song debuted in February 2024, and quickly climbed in popularity. It reached No.1 on Billboard’s hot country songs list, and No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“You can say what you want about whether it’s country or not,” said adviser Anna Saunders. “What you can’t say is that it’s not a bop. I listen to this song on repeat.”

West Coast By Lana Del Rey

This melancholy love song was released in April 2014. It debuted at No.17 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“West Coast makes me feel like I’m either in a fever dream or an edit,” said staff writer Avery Babson.

“Folklore tells a story about a love triangle and Cardigan really gives you that emotion of being left, story-telling songs are some of my favorites and this one just gives you what you need,” said assistant editor Ashley Norfleet.

Mass Anesthesia By Mediavolo

Mass Anesthesia was released in October 2006, and it is about societal conformity and the emotional detachment that comes with it.

I only found this song recently, but I immediately fell in love with it,” said graphics designer Olivia Poindexter. “I love the way it flows and it reminds me of one of my favorite bands: Bôa.”

Hold On We’re Going Home By Drake

This song was released in August 2013, and it reached No.4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“This song holds so many memories for me,” said content creation member Jordan Thomas. “I’ve been a Drake fan all my life and when I first heard this song it made me an even bigger fan.”

Top 5 Snacks

Potato Chips

Chips are a classic snack that come in so many different flavors like BBQ, sourcream and onion, salt and vinegar, and dill pickle. However regular potato chips are arguably the best because just about everyone likes them while not everybody enjoys different flavored chips. Chips can be healthier than some other snacks because they are much lower in sugar and carbs. However, it’s still best to not eat an entire bag of chips in one sitting.

“Chips are for sure one of my favorite snacks,” said content creator director Ava Babson. “Whether I’m at school, traveling, at home or on the beach, you can’t go wrong with a bag of chips for a small snack.”

Cookie Dough

While normal cookie dough is not supposed to be eaten raw due to the eggs and flour in it, there is edible cookie dough that makes a good snack without putting you at risk of getting Salmonella. Not only does edible cookie dough take away the risk of illness, but the ingredients used in it to make it safer than raw cookie dough have fewer calories.

“I would rather eat the cookie dough, rather than the cookie, said broadcast director Bella Little, “It’s a perfect dessert that takes no work.”

Sour Patch Kids

The combination of sour and sweet in sour patch kids makes them the perfect snack. They give a better experience than snacks that only target one specific taste.

“I love sour patch kids, me and Caden eat them together, they are great for sharing and taste amazing,” said staff writer Fernando Bonifacio.

Pineapple

While pineapples might not seem like a snack, especially when compared to the other items on this list, they are a healthy snack that have many health benefits. Pineapples can help boost immunity and reduce inflammation, and the high vitamin C and Bromelain content can prevent acne as well.

“I feel like nothing beats fruit,” said staff writer Paige Levine. “It’s healthy and delicious.”

Takis

Takis have become an increasingly popular snack among teens. The spice, as well as the variety of flavors of Takis is likely what makes them so appealing to the public.

“I used to not be such a big fan of spicy things,” said broadcast assistant Fleur Kelly, ”But takis really helped introduce me to that, and now I love spicy food, even if I can’t always handle it.”

Rowan Miller, Staff Writer
Rowan Miller is a 16-year-old sophomore from York, Pennsylvania. She moved to Supply, North Carolina in the beginning of last June. While she misses the greenery of PA, she is enjoying the warmer weather and living near the beach.  “Overall I like living here,” said Miller. “I do miss my friends from time to time, but I’ve managed to make new ones here. I’ve also always loved going to the beach, so it’s nice that now it’s only five minutes away from my house.”  Miller spends most of her free time reading. Her favorite genres are fantasy and mystery, and she is rarely seen without a book in her hand. Her love for reading has also impacted her writing in a positive way by making her more passionate about what she writes. She looks forward to writing articles about topics she's interested in in journalism.  “I didn’t always enjoy writing, especially when it was for school,” Miller explains. “However, after I got back into reading I felt inspired to try to write more and find ways to improve my writing. It’s one of the reasons I joined journalism. I want to be a better writer.” Miller aspires to go to UNC Chapel Hill, and eventually become an anesthesiologist. She knows that the journey will be long and difficult, but she is hopeful that with enough hard work and effort she will achieve her dream. As for the nearer future, she hopes to be able to graduate early, and finally get a job.
