West Wind Fundraiser at Smoke’d

On Thursday, February 22nd from 4:00pm-8:00pm, the West Wind staff had a fundraiser at Smoke’d, located on Main Street Shallotte.

The West Wind is always looking for sponsors or even just donations to help with equipment, Adobe subscriptions, journalism camp at UNC Chapel Hill costs and printing our literary magazines.

At the fundraiser, West Wind staff would tell members of the community, “Let your server know you are here for the West Wind to help sponsor us!”. A portion of their check would go towards the class, nothing extra to them. Staff stayed outside most of the time, playing cornhole or just sitting by the fire. Having s’mores for $1.50, people could come buy a pack and roast them at the fire and enjoy them outside.

The night went by quickly as everyone was having fun. This was the second time doing a fundraiser at smoke’d and there were even more people who showed up to support.

Paige Levine
Paige Levine, Staff Writer
Paige Levine is a sophomore starting her first semester of journalism. Levine was born and raised in Massachusetts and moved to Sunset Beach the summer before her sophomore year. Although it was hard for Levine to leave her friends and family, she looks forward to her new life here.   In her free time, Levine enjoys going to the beach, spending time with friends and family, and has a strong passion for music. Levine started playing tennis in August and then joined the team here at West, where she met many good friends.  “Last year was my first time playing a sport, so it was nice to see what that was like,” said Levine. “Being on the team felt like being in a family, and I still consider many of my teammates good friends that I can count on.” After graduation, Levine plans to attend a four-year university in Massachusetts to pursue a degree in child development and become a middle school teacher.  “I’ve always wanted to be someone people could look to for help and advice,” said Levine. “I feel like teaching is the perfect way to do that."
