My mom and I begged my stepdad for a Pomeranian puppy for days. When my mom showed me a picture of the cute little ball of fluff, his cuteness overwhelmed my mom and I. We had to have him. My stepdad was adamant about not having a puppy, but he eventually got annoyed and gave in.

I was so excited and could hardly wait to get home from school that day to see the cutest thing on earth. I rushed home and burst through the door, I could hardly contain myself. My eyes met with his, and I instantly fell in love, dropping to my knees to greet him. The cutest dog ever was now in my home and he was just as happy to see me, licking my face and jumping up on me, he stole my heart. Cuddling him and holding him close in my arms melted my heart. I wanted to be with this dog as long as possible.

Since my stepdad gave in and let us have him, so we let him name the puppy–he chose Sully (not the Sully from the movie Monsters Inc. but a lead singer from a rock band). We agreed, and Sully is probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me. His kisses, constant snuggles and his overall love for everyone make my world whole.

One of my goals as a pet owner is to make sure my dog is healthy and happy; here is a recipe for healthy, homemade treats for your pup!

Homemade Treats

Dog Biscuits

-1 cup of pumpkin

-1/2 cup of peanut butter

-2 eggs

-1/4 cup of canola oil

-2 1/2 cups of wheat flour or flour

-1 tablespoon of baking soda

Peanut butter glaze

-2 tablespoons of bacon grease, or sage coconut oil, or coconut oil or chicken fat, anything that will solidify.

-1/4 cup of smooth peanut butter

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Combine pumpkin, eggs, peanut butter, and oil in a bowl. Add in baking soda and flour. Stir until a stiff dough forms. Knead dough or mix until flour is incorporated.
  • Roll out dough with a rolling pin and use a cookie cutter to cut out dog bone shapes, or just bake into little circles like cookies. Bake for 15 minuets.
  • Whisk the grease and peanut butter until very smooth. Drizzle over the treats and cool till glaze hardens( in fridge or freezer).
