Keeping the tradition alive, Drama Club and the Advanced Theatre class will perform their annual spring musical. This year’s musical will be The Wiz with performances on May 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th. The directors of this year’s musical are Karter Elliot and Kaliym Harrison who is doubling as the Tinman in the drama club production.
“It’s hard being both director and a performer because not only do I have to make sure everyone else is doing what they’re supposed to do, but I also have to make sure I’m focused and learning my lines and choreography,” said Harrison.
The Wiz which came out in 1978, is a modern version of the original 1939, The Wizard of Oz.
“Everyone should watch The Wiz because it puts a twist on The Wizard of Oz and you get to see all new personality types,” remarked Elliot.
The Wiz isn’t only for entertainment; it also has many meaningful undertones. Something Harrison believes that the audience will learn is that it is okay to be you.
“After watching the show, people will learn that no matter who you are, if you’re happy with yourself, you’re always home,” Harrison stated.
