On Thursday night, swimmers from Ashley, West, South, and North Brunswick High Schools gathered to compete at Brunswick Community College’s Aquatic Center. As warmups began around 4 pm, parents and supporters started to roll in to watch their swimmer(s) compete. The meet began shortly after the national anthem and team prayers, roughly around 5 pm.
The meet started with the Women’s 200 Medley Relay. Our female A team placed 3rd in their heat with a time of 2:09.38. The crowd continued to cheer throughout all the close competitions. Up next, we had our women’s and men’s 200 Freestyle. In our women’s heat, swimmers Kaylee Jarvis, Blakely McMullan, and Annabella Borusso competed for 1st, 4th, and 7th place. Jarvis qualified for the new 6A regional qualification time of 2:13.51. In the men’s heat, Caleb Finley and Avery Holderby placed 5th and 8th place.
As the meet progressed, many great swims were completed, along with numerous neck-and-neck races. In the women’s 200 IM, senior Ava Williams made the qualification cut with a time of 2:38.95, and Olivia Reme made consideration with a time of 3:18.62. Next up, in the women’s 50 Freestyle, Tess Caron, Madison Richardson, and Maeve Johnson all qualified for consideration times. Johnson and Richardson both swam personal bests. In the men’s 50 Freestlye, Tucker Hamilton and Giuseepe Ambrogio placed 5th and 22nd.
Jarvis and Abigail Davis made our next considerations in the women’s 500 Freestyle. Both women’s and men’s A teams placed 3rd in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and our men’s team made the consideration cut with a time of 2:06.26. In the women’s 100 Backstroke, Caron, Johnson, and junior Kennedy Torsiello competed for 5th, 8th, and 10th place, Caron and Torsiello making consideration times. The meet concluded with the 400 Freestyle Relay, in which our women swimmers placed 2nd overall. After the meet ended, our women finished with a total of 113 points, placing us in third place, and our men finished with a total of 35 points, also finishing in third place.
With the team’s first back-to-back travel meet at East Carolina University just 24 hours away on the 5th, nerves have been building, as they also compete for quicker times in a new conference, but our swimmers have quickly adapted and remained strong. We hope for a successful season and look forward to seeing what our swimmers accomplish!
