The New Kanye West: From Slave to Son

Recently, the famous Kanye West has openly given his life to Christ, grabbing the attention of millions across America. In 2016 he was hospitalized due to an overdose on opioids, which almost took his life. This ultimately lead to the transformation that has taken place in West’s life, which has been praised, yet still seems skeptical to many.

According to The New York Times, West’s new album ‘Jesus is King’ had 264,000 sales within the first week of the release and was streamed 197 million times. The album also made it to the top charts in Christian and gospel music, allowing for West’s first appearance on the charts. From his vulgar lyrics to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ; ‘Jesus is King’ has created a whole new perspective on who Kanye West is becoming and how his overall message to listeners has converted completely.

“Now that I’m in service to Christ, my job is to spread the gospel to let people know what Jesus has done for me,” said West.

Recently, West visited televangelist Joel Osteen’s megachurch in Texas. West stood on the stage in front of a crowd of 17,000 and was questioned by Osteen about his faith and music career.

“I know that God’s been calling me for a long time and the devil’s been distracting me for a long time,” said West. “When I was in my lowest points, God was there with me and sending me visions and inspiring me.

West also started what is known as “Sunday Service” every Sunday in a different location each time. According to Variety, some of the services have been held on Kanye’s property in Burbank, Calabasas, and Los Angeles. These services have opened the doors to many believers and non-believers to hear the gospel. During West’s most recent service, over one-thousand people were saved.

“It’s just an idea we had to open up our hearts to make music that we felt was as pure and positive as possible and just do it for an hour every Sunday,” said West. “To have something where people can just come together and feel good with their families.”

Kanye West is receiving a lot of criticism for his conversion to live a life for Christ, and many believe that it is just a scheme to gain more fame. However, many of West’s close friends and family have seen a genuine change in his words and actions. The pictures and videos also depict a more “joyful” Kanye.

“There was a time when I let you know what high fashion had done for me, there was a time when I let you know what the Hennessey had done for me,” said West. “And now I’m letting you know what Jesus did for me. I’m no longer a slave; I’m a son of God. I’m free.”
