Ellisyn Hayes, Staff Writer

Ellisyn Hayes is a 14-year-old freshman starting her first semester of journalism. Hayes moved to Shallotte, NC when she was a toddler from Tabor City, NC and has grown up here ever since. Although being only a freshman she knows her way around the school with her dad being the principal.

“Our high school does represent the high school experience that most people think about very well,” says Hayes. “Theres always people talking and laughing with their friends, and the teachers are always really nice to everyone, including me.”

Hayes has always had an idea of things going on at West Brunswick but when she found out they had a journalism class she was very excited. She has been interested in journalism since 5th grade when she started doing “news interviews” and writings for class projects. Since then Hayes has been interested in exploring the different types of journalism.

“I’ve always wanted to be the person on the sidelines,” says Hayes. “The one who’s talking and interviewing the coaches and players after a game.”

In her free time, Hayes enjoys dancing. She has been competitively dancing for 10 years and also dances on the school’s dance team. Hayes loves dancing at games but also just bonding with her teammates. She even hopes to be on a college dance team in the future.

Since it is her first year at West Brunswick she is looking forward to lots of new things. Hayes is excited to be able to write about things going on in our community and all the freedom that high school has. She is looking forward to all of the high school experiences that are offered and to enjoy the next four years.
